The lure of paradise was unmistakable, and Bill Butler was on a quest to find it with his wife Simonne - riding the Pacific currents on their sloop Siboney, with a world of possibilities ahead. But,1200 miles from land, the alluring ocean showed its deadly side when, without warning, a pod of pilot whales attacked their sailboat, battering it until it sank beneath the waves.

The dazed couple was left drifting in midocean in a leaky six-foot raft meant for coastal waters, with only a few hastily grabbed provisions to sustain them. Simonne, who had never truly shared Bill's dream of circumnavigating the globe, blamed him bitterly for their desperate plight.

In this powerful account of their 66-day odyssey, Butler tells a gritty, harrowing tale of their battles against nature, despair, and their own demons. He reveals how he and Simonne found the strength to survive despite the ravages of hunger, storms, and sharks. Based on Butler's faithful log entries, 66 Days Adrift is both a chilling cautionary tale for sailors with big ideas and an inspiring story of love, faith, and survival against long odds.

66 Days Adrift A True Story of Disaster and Survival on the Open Sea (Audible Audio Edition) William Butler Nick Hahn LLC New Street Communications Books

This is a poorly written book that has an incredibly interesting story to tell. William Butler thinks very highly of himself, and if you can get over that, it is a fascinating read. I almost tossed the book when I read his comment (while ogling his naked wife in their tiny raft) that she would look pretty good after she starves for a few weeks and loses weight! On the other hand, he gives interesting details about how and why the raft isn't flipped over by 25-foot waves during storms, how sharks bang on their raft all night with their tails or turtles rubbing against it threaten to tear it apart with the barnacles on their shells, how the flock of birds follow them for weeks, and much more. After they are rescued, his poor writing completely falls apart.

pretty lack-luster writing
perfect
An amazing true story of survival at sea! At 4 o'clock in the morning, far out in the Pacific, their sailboat was battered by of a group of whales until it started sinking. The survival of Bill and Sim Butler is remarkable and very interesting to read!
Good Book
Good book...true story
when I started this book I almost gave up reading it because I knew there was going to be a lot of the same thing. I guess there is only so much you can do in a raft at sea for 66 days. but I am so glad I kept reading because this book really got good when the sharks came around day after day it was a fight to stay alive.I do wish there would have been some pictures. so we could put faces with the names. I am so glad that Bill and his wife made it back.this book is good if you just give it a chance and keep reading. at times I felt as if I was in that raft too! a good read and pretty frighting.
This is a well written entertaining sea survival book. Bill Butler and his wife's yacht was sunk by whales in the South Pacific. They manage to survive in a leaky raft with sharks bumping against them and harassing them all the time. Bill Butler is an experienced sailor and kept a log during the entire ordeal. I think the keeping of the log contributed to the excellent detail in the book. I enjoyed reading about how he caught fish and dealt with leaks in the raft, sharks and storms at sea. It was also heart breaking to read about all the boats that passed them by and never saw them. They persevered because they never gave up and worked at survival. They also had the foresight to bring along a water purification pump which ended up coming in very very useful. The book had no pictures in it which I wish it had. Overall, this is a really good read. I think "The Spirit of the Rose Noelle" and "Survive the Savage Sea" are a little better survival stories than this one. I would still recommend reading this book.
